Over the long weekend in September, the Bowen Basin Classic is fast becoming one of Australia’s premier piscatorial events. For many people, it’s the annual fishing competition that’s not to be missed.
This year, to help the event run smoothly, Bill Jones and Michael Hemmens from Allight arranged for the delivery and installation of a powerful Allight mobile lighting tower.
As keen fishermen, they also attended the event as competitors. As Michael Hemmens explained “For three days and nights, competitors try their best to land the winning catch around the beautiful waters of Bowen, Queensland”.
“At the same time” said Bill “a busy schedule of fun entertainment on the shore makes it a fantastic family-friendly show”
By providing the light tower – turning night into day at key locations – Allight assisted with all the Bowen Fishing Classic nightly events.
“ Our versatile Allight MSLED224K-9 lighting tower was set up within the grounds of the Historical Bowen foreshore. Boasting 8 x 300W low glare RFComSafe lamps, producing 224,000 Lumens, it kept the show humming well into the night. It made it safe for competitors and families alike” said Michael.
“ It’s a powerful yet very quiet lighting unit. What’s more, if needed, it’s capable of running for 2 weeks without refuel – based on 12 hour nightly operation” added Bill.
During the event, Bill and Michael helped to start, maintain and set the positions of the LED lighting tower to cover multiple positions of importance over the three nights.
“The lighting tower helped competitors, exhibitors and visitors during the initial set up on the Friday night. Even more, it was vital for security throughout the duration of the event and helped exhibitors pack up on the Sunday Night” said Michael.
Bill explained “ We had a great time. The entire event was really well organised and we were proud to assist the organisers by providing the lighting tower and setting it up wherever and whenever it was needed”.
“The windy conditions restricted us to some close to shore fishing, but we did get onto some nice size fish, including a Golden Trevally and Coral trout. Unfortunately we did not land them all” laughed Michael.
