Finding diamonds in an underground mine can be a difficult business.
At Allight, we work with our customers to design and build lighting solutions that meet their requirements. We understand that for some mining and construction projects, big may not be big enough. To tackle the lighting needs of these larger projects, we developed the SuperSkid mobile lighting tower. The first two of these SuperSkid towers were commissioned for a diamond mine in West Africa and are now in place, lighting the way for them to unearth their precious gems.
The sheer magnitude and layout of this mine posed some unique lighting challenges. Our brief was to design lighting towers that provide optimal and targeted lighting in a large area, with the mobility and flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the mine as it progresses. Recent testing has shown that the SuperSkid solution has been successful in achieving these goals.
Our specialist team observed all potential positioning points in the mine before determining two locations where the maximum light output would be achieved. The manoeuvrability of the SuperSkid towers meant they could be easily located to these positions. Both units were parked sideways next to the high-wall, approximately 200 meters above operations. The result was an outstanding 26 LUX measured across the illuminated worksite.
The feedback from the mining team has been so positive that the mine site is likely to order additional units.
What makes our SuperSkids so successful is that they are robust, durable and heavy-duty towers, designed to meet mine specifications. At Allight, we design and manufacture all our lighting towers to withstand the most challenging and rigorous mining conditions. While the MineSpec towers are ideal for most mines, the SuperSkid has additional specifics to handle the larger jobs.
Allight always works to minimise your running costs, and the SuperSkid mobile lighting tower is no exception. The cylinder head configuration has been optimised by Perkins for reduced fuel and oil consumption and maximum efficiency. The SuperSkids are powered by a 3 or 4 cylinder Perkins engine, coupled with a heavy-duty Sincro brushless alternator. Other power options are also available to meet specific site needs. Peace of mind is built-in by the heavy-duty skid base which provides unrivalled stability.
The success of the Allight lighting towers in the African diamond mine reinforces why being a designer and manufacturer gives us an edge when it comes to meeting your lighting needs. We have towers ready to purchase and can also design to your specific requirements. No job is too big or too small so contact our team to find the lighting solution that works best for you.
